Ibrahim Farag served as retained defense counsel in one of the most nationally scrutinized police use-of-force prosecutions in recent American history — the criminal proceedings arising from the March 2020 death of Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky.
Beginning in 2022, Ibrahim represented former Louisville Metro Police detective Brett Hankison through three separate proceedings: a state felony trial in Jefferson Circuit Court resulting in acquittal on all counts, a federal civil-rights trial in the Western District of Kentucky that ended in mistrial after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict, and a 2024 federal retrial resulting in partial acquittal and one conviction now pending before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
The case required sustained preparation across overlapping state and federal jurisdictions under intense public scrutiny. It is the kind of case that demands federal-court fluency, constitutional precision, and the composure to try a matter in front of a jury when the stakes — for the client and the public — could not be higher.
Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome. Each case is evaluated on its own facts and merits.
